About the Harpist -
Candace L. Coates was born and raised in Dutchess County, she has played the Celtic harp since 1993. Ms. Coates began playing the harp as an adult and is self taught. Candace has had many years of experience of performing with the traditional Irish band, "Rising of the Moon", which to her surprise earned her a mention in a New York Times best selling work of nonfiction called "Little Chapel on the River" by Ms.Gwendolyn Bounds. Before her involvement with the Irish group, she had a large Celtic band of her own. Candace has had the life enriching experience of recording two independent albums in the Grammy Award winning recording studio Diverse Productions located in Poughkeepsie, NY.In addition she has played out in a variety of venues, ranging from performing outdoors in public spaces to more formal events. Candace uses reproductions of 14th century gowns in her performances which add a proven additional visual impact. In October of 2015,Candace founded a school harp program for a small private school St. Therese Classical Learning Academy in Middletown,New York. In late November of the same year, Ms.Coates became the harp teacher for Dutchess Community College School of Music. Prior to the school harp program Candace had homeschooled her adult harp students and will continue to provide private lessons by appointment.
