Get Creative at Little Red Bird Studio, Millerton, NY

By Alicia Noonan - Macaroni Kid Poughkeepsie March 25, 2015

I had the pleasure of stopping into this little space, tucked underneath the corner of Main Street and  South Center Street in Millerton, NY. While it is small in square footage, it is chock full of creativity. I asked owner, Julianna Kreta to describe her space in further detail....

"Little Red Bird Studio is a small Art Gallery, Gift Shop and Artist’s Studio.

The Gift Shop contains items which have are all handmade by local artists and crafters. It features handmade jewelry, crystal beaded sun catchers and decorations, “stained glass” window decorations, decorative embroidery hoops, pottery, knitted items, handpainted wooden nesting dolls, and greeting cards featuring local artwork. The stock changes with artist and crafters creativity! You never know what you may find!

I also have my own studio space there, and I offer classes in the studio. I have a NY State Certificate to teach art grades K-12. I also have experience teaching art to adults through the Continuing Education program in Litchfield, CT. My friend Nina La Porta is teaching knitting. She has been knitting for 20 years, and is the manager of a knitting shop.

The Gallery Wall is a small space in the shop where I want to feature local artists. Currently, it features original oil paintings by myself, Julianna Kreta, of Sharon, CT, watercolor paintings by Hope Mongeau of Lakeville, CT, painted prints by Bill Bryce of Great Barrington, MA, and Photographs by M.E. Kreta of Sharon.  I hope to eventually hold gallery openings and give local and upcoming artists the chance to be featured in a gallery show."

Julianna told me that she wants the space to be one where local artists can share their creativity and one where anyone can come and learn. The space is warm and inviting and I encourage anyone visiting Millerton to stop in and say he (just like I did!). Julianna will welcome you with a smile and even offer you a cup of coffee! With art being cut from so many of our schools, it is nice to know that there is a place for our budding artists to go and learn! Click HERE for the link to her class schedule.
