REVIEW: Wizard Of Oz

at The Westchester Dinner Theatre

By Courtney Goodrow for Poughkeepsie Macaroni Kid August 19, 2014
Last night I had the pleasure of having my first night out since my son was born and was able to go and see The Wizard of Oz at Westchester Dinner Theater on Thursday August 7th. It being one of the few times I have gone, I looked forward to it and enjoyed myself. The food was wonderful and the wait staff was very attentive for having such a packed house. I had the pretzel chicken and it was very well cooked and would have had seconds if I could. My husband had the fish and enjoyed it so much he cleaned his plate. I enjoyed the signature drink "The Ruby Slipper"  but found when I ordered a second one it was very watered down, but over all the meal was very good.
For those of you who don't know me I am a HUGE Wizard of Oz fan and have seen many different plays of it as well as the movie thousands of times. I thought this production of the show was very good. My favorite parts of the show were any scene that included the Cowardly Lion and the Wicked Witch. The actors casted in those parts could not have been more perfect if they were Margaret Hamilton and Bert Lahr themselves.
I also enjoyed the actors that played Dorothy, Scarecrow and Tin-man. The opening scene with Somewhere Over the Rainbow was wonderful and as always put a smile on my face. Over all I enjoyed my night out and thought the production was done very well and think others should see it before it is gone. My only criticism is that the chairs toward the end of the night can be uncomfortable so I encourage who ever goes to the show to walk around during intermission in order to save yourself from a little discomfort, but all and all worth getting the babysitter and having a night out.
