Giveaway: Baby Magic Sleepsuit

Need a Good Night's Sleep? Read This!

By Sabrina Condon, Macaroni Kid January 14, 2014

From the time my daughter was born, she slept best cuddled in her car seat, the Fisher Price Newborn Sleeper Rocker, and her swing.  If she slept in her crib, I noticed that her body movements would jerk her awake.  After several hours, I’d give in and return her to the Fisher Price rocker.  As a result of her preferred vertical sleeping habits, her head would slump and torticollis was becoming an issue.

I noticed if I held my arm over her body while she slept, she was very happy.  Unfortunately swaddles were not her thing, sleep sacks were not heavy enough to hold her still, and blankets are NOT safe for infants to have on while sleeping.  Yet I knew what I ultimately needed was a heavy blanket to keep her happy, but a safe one didn’t exist.

Or so I thought.

Meanwhile, my girlfriend was having trouble with her slightly older baby breaking out of his swaddle.  Another mother had heard positive things about Magic Sleepsuit, and I started to investigate the product.  Magic Sleepsuit's website focuses on the problem of baby-swaddle breakouts, but the suit description sounded exactly like what I envisioned needing.

The Magic Sleepsuit is essentially a heavy wearable blanket.  My husband jokes that it’s a baby sumo-wrestler suit, which quite honestly gives a pretty accurate and entertaining visual.  I approached Maureen, inventor of the Magic Sleepsuit, and she allowed me to test one out.  She gave me a head’s up that at 2 months old, Siobhan may be a little young, and to wait until Siobhan may be more ready.

As a desperate mom, I maneuvered Siobhan into the Sleepsuit with the double zipper front, designed to help make the dressing quicker and easier.  I found the skill level equivalent to putting Siobhan into her snowsuit.  After a couple dressings, I could probably fit her into it with one hand tied behind my back.

The first two times Siobhan was dressed, she started to fuss, and I panicked that we'd be up all night.  The third time I tried, though, I held strong through 3 minutes of mild fussing, and SHE SLEPT THE ENTIRE NIGHT!  The Sleepsuit is designed for back sleeping, and that's exactly where she slept beautifully that night, and the next, and the next.  Yes, she does still wake for food 1-2 times a night (she’s only 4 months old at this point), but we’ve had many full-nights of sleep since using the suit.

Whether you baby break out of his swaddle or jerks herself awake, I highly recommend trying this suit.

The Magic Sleepsuit website has a great demonstration video, and their FAQs page answered all the concerns I personally had when researching the product.  After testing out the suit, I can firmly say I agree with everything stated there.  It covers any concerns about temperatures, rolling over, and more.  Since I did start Siobhan less than 3mo of age, I felt her head hung back and may have been uncomfortable, but she grew past that quickly.

Within a week I noticed a huge improvement in her torticollis, and two months later she needs no physical therapy to correct it.  I would now be lost without the Magic Sleepsuit, and I will absolutely be purchasing the next size up as she grows.

The following came on a tag with the Sleepsuit, and I thought it detailed perfectly my own story and I wanted to share it with you.

The Magic Sleepsuit Story
Like so many parents, I struggled with my baby not sleeping well in his crib.  What I did know was that he slept well when cozy and  secure, such as when held or nestled in  his car seat. So, by using my instincts as a mother and experience as  a pediatric physical therapist, I  created the Magic Sleepsuit® to simulate this calming and comforting  environment in the crib. If your baby  already sleeps well, this product can help eliminate the need for loose bedding, layering, etc. The Magic Sleepsuit® was a huge success with all of my children and friends’  children as well! Over time, the Magic Sleepsuit® became a consistent part of their sleep routine, at home or away. Knowing how important good sleep is to babies and their parents, I wanted to share this product with others and I hope you too can... “Enjoy the Magic of a Sleeping Baby!”
Sleep well, Maureen
